The Wong family opened Kung Fu at Third and Fremont in 1973 and never left — just moved half a mile from the Strip, and kept cooking the same way.
How We Started Downtown
The Wong family opened Kung Fu at Third Street and Fremont in 1973, when old Las Vegas was a very different place. The same kitchen values — authentic Thai cooking, Flavors, and Taste, priced honestly — are exactly what we're still doing today.
The Move to Union Plaza Hotel Downtown Las Vegas
In 1982 we moved to the 3rd Floor of the then called Union Plaza Hotel, occupying their Buffet room. Being the first Thai restaurant to operate out of a major Hotel-Casino was unheard of for any restaurant at the time. Major Stars and Celebrities was seen Enjoying Great Thai meals during the over 10 years at that location.
What Goes Into Every Dish
No MSG, zero trans-fat oils, and Certified Angus Beef — standards we've held since before they were talking points. Our Teochew roast duck brought chef Marcus Samuelsson to our kitchen for PBS's No Passport Required.
Thai Food, Done Right
From Hand-mixed Thai Style Salads, and Laarb specialties cooked around imported fish sauce from Thailand — the Thai Certified Angus Beef Salad in Las Vegas is available Here. No ingredients is pre-mixed, ever. All of our Thai cooks are experienced to make every Thai Salads and Entree Fresh from scratch.
Still Here. Still Us.
Eater Vegas named us a Classic Las Vegas Must-Know, with a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and BBB A+ rating. But our proudest recognition is the regulars who've been coming since the '70s.
